May 26, 2019 - American Association (AA)
Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
The Sioux Falls Canaries scored two runs three batters into the game Sunday night at the Gary SouthShore RailCats. From there, the night belonged to the home team.
Sioux Falls dropped the game 7-2, losing the weekend series between the two teams two games to one. The Birds are now 5-5 heading into the last series of their 13-game season-opening road trip.
The Birds' runs came on back-to-back RBI doubles in the first. Mitch Glasser drove in Brett Vertigan, who reached on a leadoff walk. The double extended Glasser's hitting streak to nine games.
Adrian Nieto doubled home Glasser one batter later, putting the Birds up 2-0 before an out was recorded.
From there, the Sioux Falls offense fell quiet. Gary SouthShore starter Christian DeLeon went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out two. He allowed just three baserunners over his last six innings.
Meanwhile, the RailCats offense battled back. They'd tie the game on a two-run single by Marcus Mooney in the third off Canaries starter Alex Boshers. A fourth-inning infield hit from Zach Welz made it 3-2 RailCats.
Gary SouthShore would add two more runs in the fifth inning. John Price, Jr. hit an RBI double to score Randy Santiesteban, and a sacrifice fly one batter later from Wilfredo Gimenez made it 5-2.
Boshers lasted five innings for Sioux Falls, allowing five runs on nine hits. He walked one and struck out three.
Mark Seyler pitched the sixth and seventh innings for the Canaries, allowing a two-run single in the sixth from Colin Willis to make it 7-2. Alex Ogren pitched a 1-2-3 eighth for Sioux Falls.
