Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries (26-16) could not complete the sweep of the El Paso Diablos (23-18) on Sunday afternoon at the Birdcage, losing 4-2 in 10 innings.

The Canaries jumped to an early lead in the first inning. Cameron Coughlan led off with a single, advanced to second by beating the double play ball, and then stole third base. Will Smith hit a single to right centerfield allowing Coughlan to come in giving the Birds a 1-0 lead. Wil Quintana and Abner Arroyo both drew walks to load the bases for Ben Van Iderstine. Van Iderstine reached on a fielder's choice and Smith was able to score from third putting the Birds up 2-0.

The Diablos got one run back in the top of the third inning. Albenis Machado led off with a double and stole third base. Tim Marks' throw to third sailed into left field, and the error by the Canaries catcher allowed Machado to score. At the end of the third, the Canaries led 2-1.

In the fourth inning, Jordan Belcher and Matthew Kent hit consecutive doubles. Belcher crossed home plate on Kent's double, tying the game, 2-2.

For the second night in a row, the Canaries and Diablos went into extra innings. In the 10th inning, Jorge Alvarez started the fire for the Diablos with a double. Walter Olmstead followed with a double of his own, scoring Alvarez and putting El Paso ahead, 3-2. Belcher singled to left field driving in Olmstead to give the Diablos a 4-2 lead. The Canaries were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning.

Kris Regas (1-1) suffered the loss for the Canaries pitching two innings in relief. Justin Knoff (2-1) earned his second win of the year pitching two innings and allowing only one hit. Ned Darley saved his 11th game of the season.

The Canaries return to action on Tuesday at 7:05 versus the Lincoln Saltdogs at the Birdcage. Tuesday is the "Chamber's 100th Birthday Party" presented by the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce.
