How Sweep It is, Saints Roll to Seventh Straight Win

ST. PAUL, MN (June 24, 2007) - Each of the teams at the top of the Northern Division have put together an impressive winning streak and you can count the St. Paul Saints as one of them. They rolled off their seventh straight victory with a 9-4 win at the hands of the St. Joseph Blacksnakes on Sunday afternoon at Midway Stadium in front of 5.318.

For the third consecutive game the Blacksnakes got on the board first, but the Saints tied it at one in the fourth. With Adam Bourassa at second Skip Adams doubled to left-center to drive home Bourassa.

The Saints put the game away with a five run fifth inning. They sent nine men to the plate and with one out Ben Thomas walked. Brent Krause doubled to right-center which drove home Thomas. With two outs Sprout singled home Krause. Sprout finished the afternoon 4-5, with an RBI and a run scored. Bourassa's infield single put runners at first and second and Adams followed by hitting a grounder to short which Casey Gordan threw away at second allowing Sprout to score. Alex Fonseca finished the scoring with a two-run single.

Marcel Longmire finished the scoring himself adding a two-run single in the sixth and a solo homer in the eighth, his eighth of the season as he extended his hitting streak to 16 games.

Saints starter Charlie Ruud was superb on three days rest going 6.1 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out a Saints season high 10. The Saints set a team season high by striking out 12 Blacksnake hitters. The Saints outscored the Blacksnakes in their three game sweep, 31-8 and have collected double digit hits in seven straight games, all wins.

The Saints have Monday off and begin a three game series at Midway Stadium against the Pensacola Pelicans on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. The Saints start LHP Jake Postlewait (5-4, 3.07). The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network. There is no radio, but fans can listen to the game via the Saints website at saintsbaseball.com. With the afternoon contest it is Office Olympics at Midway Stadium.
