Record Shattering Crowd Watches Pelicans and Aviators Final Game

Pensacola Pelicans News Release


An outstanding and new record shattering crowd of 6,238 fans were on hand to watch the Pensacola Pelicans and Coastal Bend Aviators last game of this three-game series. The crowd surpassed the previous record of 4,209 by 2,029. The Pelicans tied the game in the bottom of the 9th but were unable to hold off the Aviators as they won 8-3.

Coastal Bend scored the games first run in the 3rd inning off a Grant Richardson homerun to left field. The Aviators added another run in the 5th when Matt Spencer singled in Steve Ketter.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Pensacola got on the board when Cesar Aranguren drove in Bo Brown who singled to lead of the inning.

Pensacola tied the game at two in the 8th inning off a JD Reininger RBI single that scored Aranguren who reached by an error.

Both teams scored one run in the 9th to send the game to extra innings. Brian Fryer hit a homerun in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the 9th, Nathan Warrick beat out a slow ground ball to second base for an infield hit. He then stole second base and scored off an Aranguren single.

The Aviators scored five runs in the 10th inning to overcome the Pelicans 8-3.
