St. Paul continues to play terrific baseball as the Saints sweep the St. Joe Blacksnakes and win their seventh game in a row. The Saints offensively scored nine runs and hammered out 15 hits. LF Brian Sprout had four of those 15 hits along with a run scored and a RBI. C Marcel Longmire also chipped with a 2-for-5 performance with a run scored and three runs driven in, including his eighth home run of the season. St. Paul starting pitcher Charlie Ruud notches his fifth win of the season in a solid performance giving up an earned run on four hits with no walks and 10 big strikeouts. St. Joe leadoff hitter Casey Gordon, LF Paul Weichard and 1B Dustin Yount each collected two hits in the losing cause.

Shreveport 3, Fort Worth 2 (Game 1 - 8 innings)

Sports CF Deacon Burns singled home C Justin Humphries in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Shreveport the victory over the Fort Worth Cats in game one of the doubleheader. Burns and 1B Tommy Bryant each had 2-for-3 performances in the game with Burns driving in two runs and Bryant scoring two runs. Shreveport starting pitcher Matt Yeatman pitched a complete game going eight innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. With the win, Yeatman is now 5-1 on the season.

Shreveport 5, Fort Worth 0 (Game 2 - 7 innings)

A four-run first inning and a terrific pitching performance by Sports starting pitcher Colby Miller leads Shreveport to a doubleheader sweep of Fort Worth. With the sweep, the Sports pull to within two games of first place El Paso. Miller hurled a complete game shutout for Shreveport allowing only three hits while striking out four Cats' batters. RF Chad Gambill went 1-for-3 with a first inning three-run blast for Shreveport. Sports C Justin Humphries also had two hits and scored two runs. For Fort Worth, 3B Terence Green and SS Marc Mirizzi each went 1-for-3 at the plate.

El Paso 4, Sioux Falls 2 (10 innings)

A RBI double by 1B Walter Olmstead and a RBI single by RF Jordan Belcher plates two runs for El Paso in the top of the 10th inning to give them a much needed win over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Albenis Machado went 4-for-5 on the afternoon for the Diablos with a run scored while Belcher and C Mathew Kent each had two hits with both driving in a run. Justin Knoff pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for the Diablos to get his second win of the season. Ned Darley sat down Sioux Falls in the 10th to notch his 11th save of the season. The 11 saves are good for second place in the American Association.

Coastal Bend 8, Pensacola 3 (10 innings)

Coastal Bend used a big 10th inning to down Pensacola and improve to 19-22 on the year. Aviators starter Derrick Van Dusen pitched well, but did not factor in the decision. Van Dusen allowed two runs on seven hits through 7 1/3 innings before handing things over to the bullpen. Coastal Bend reliever Tom Atlee picked up his first win of the year thanks to two innings in which he allowed a run and struck out four. CF Brian Fryer was 3-for-6 with a home run to lead the way at the plate for Coastal Bend. 1B Grant Richardson also went deep for the Aviators and finished the game 1-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Sioux City 2, Lincoln 1

The Sioux City Explorers outlasted Lincoln late to hang on for a one-run victory, improving their record to 15-27 and handing the Saltdogs just their 11th lost of the season. Both sides got great pitching, as neither starter allowed an earned run through six innings of work, but it was Sioux City starter Alexander Francisco who had enough for the win, improving his mark to 4-4. Francisco struck out seven and allowed just four hits. Explorers closer Matt Wilkinson held on in the ninth to pick up his second save of the year. Lincoln's magic number to clinch the first half of the North Division is three.
