El Paso Diablos News Release

Walter Olmstead's 10th inning RBI double paced the El Paso Diablos to a 4-2 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries in the series finale from Sioux Falls Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Canaries jumped out to the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. Andy Torres allowed two runs off of two base hits. Will Smith picked up an RBI single and Ben Van Iderstine got an RBI on a ground out as Sioux Falls took the early 2-0 lead.

The Diablos pieced together one run in the top of the third. Albenis Machado led off the frame with a double down the right field line. Machado later stole third base and scored on a throwing error from the catcher cutting the deficit to 2-1.

El Paso tied up the game in the top of the fourth. Jordan Belcher hit a one-out double to deep left. Matt Kent then plated Belcher on a ground ball down the right field line which knotted up the game at 2-2.

Andy Torres got himself into a jam in the bottom of the seventh inning. He walked the lead off batter Damon Lessler. The next at-bat Cameron Coughlan dropped down a bunt, which Walter Olmstead picked up and threw wildly to second base allowing Lessler to move over. Andy Torres took matters into his own hands and promptly picked off both Lessler and Coughlan for two quick outs. Torres then induced David Keesee into a fly out to end the inning.

The game would go into extras tied at two for the second straight contest and the third time in six games. El Paso managed to score the winning run in the top of the tenth inning. Jorge Alvarez led things off with a double yanked down the left field line. Walter Olmstead eventually drove in Alvarez with a double of his own off the wall and Jordan Belcher singled in Olmstead giving the Diablos a 4-2 lead.

Ned Darley picked up his 11th save of the season as he threw a scoreless 10th inning.

Andy Torres threw seven full allowing only two runs off of six hits with four walks and one strikeout.

Justin Knoff (2-0) gets the victory as he tossed two scoreless innings.

Kris Regas (1-1) gets the loss as he threw two innings allowing two runs off of four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

The El Paso Diablos will open up a seven-game home stand to wrap up the first half of the season starting on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. El Paso will host the Shreveport Sports for a critical three game set, Josh Neitz will toss in the first game. Four Time World Heavy Weight Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield will be on hand as an honorary coach for the game. The contest will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
