Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (August 13, 2019)- After an offensive outburst from the Pelicans, rain shortened the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 8-0, five-inning victory over the Potomac Nationals on Tuesday night from Pfitzner Stadium.

The Pelicans (47-71, 26-25) wasted no time backing their starter Brailyn Marquez (W, 2-0) in the first inning. The Birds started off the game with five straight hits against Nationals' (57-61, 27-24) starter Ryan Tapani (L, 0-2). Carlos Sepulveda and Grant Fennell began things with back-to-back singles before Cam Balego doubled home the game's first run. Miguel Amaya then ripped a two-run double and Luke Reynolds added in another RBI double to make it 4-0.

That score held until the fourth inning when Sepulveda bounced into a fielder's choice, scoring Aramis Ademan to make it 5-0. Amaya then drew a bases-loaded walk to put the lead at 6-0.

In the fifth, Myrtle Beach added on with a Wladimir Galindo RBI single and a Sepulveda RBI triple, placing the lead at 8-0.

Marquez was brilliant in his second start with the Pelicans. The lefty threw five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four. Marquez has now thrown 10 shutout innings in his two starts with Myrtle Beach.

Right after the fifth inning concluded, the tarp was put on the field and the game was called.

The Pelicans will continue their series against Potomac at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday. The Birds will send RHP Javier Assad (4-8, 3.63 ERA) to the hill, while LHP Nick Raquet (9-8, 4.38 ERA) will go for the Nationals. Coverage starts at 6:50 p.m. on MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast and the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Apps.

The 2019 season is the 21st season for the Pelicans franchise and fifth as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For tickets visit MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/tickets, call (843) 918-6000, or visit the Pelicans Box Office.
