
Binelas Three-Run Blast Powers Portland Over Akron

Portland, Maine- A pair of home runs puts the Portland Sea Dogs (33-19) back in the win column with a 6-2 win over the Akron RubberDucks (25-26) on Tuesday evening. With the win, Portland remains in first place of the Northeast Division, 3.5 games ahead of the second place Somerset Patriots.
Ceddanne Rafaela extends his hitting streak to eleven games while extending his on base streak to fifteen games with three singles and three stolen bases. Alex Binelas blasts a three-run home run (4) while Chase Meidroth records a solo shot (2) in Portland's win.
Nick Yorke put Portland on the board first in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Corey Rosier. A sacrifice fly to right field by Marcelo Mayer would score Ceddanne Rafaela and Portland led, 2-0.
Alex Binelas blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to record his fourth home run of the season and Portland extended the 5-0 lead.
Akron plated a pair of runs in the top of the fifth after scoring on a passed ball along with an RBI double from Petey Halpin.
A solo home run by Chase Meidroth in the bottom of the fifth inning extended the Portland lead, 6-2. The solo shot over the Maine Monster marked his second of the season.
After going three-for-four with three singles, Ceddanne Rafaela extended his hitting streak to eleven games while extending his on base streak to fifteen games. His eleven-game streak is the longest hitting streak for Portland this season. Chase Meidroth went two-for-two with a home run and a single while Alex Binelas went two-for-four with a home run and single.
Portland starter RHP Brian Van Belle (3-3, 3.10 ERA) earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out four. Akron starter RHP Hunter Stanley (2-4, 4.31 ERA) was issued the loss after pitching 4.0 innings allowing five runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field tomorrow, June 7, 2023 for game two of a six-game series against the Akron Rubber Ducks. First pitch for game two is slated for 6:00pm. Portland will send RHP Sterling Sharp (1-0, 3.12 ERA) to the mound while Akron will start LHP Jaime Arias (0-2, 6.30 ERA).
