August 23, 2023 - Eastern League (EL)
Erie SeaWolves News Release
Despite Justice Bigbie's heroics, Erie fell in 10 innings to Bowie, 8-6.
The SeaWolves scored first in the second inning. After a leadoff double by Chris Meyers, Corey Joyce drove him home with an RBI single to give Erie a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Bigbie led off with a solo blast to make it 2-0. Jace Jung and Jake Holton followed with doubles. Holton's double scored Jung to make it 3-0. Joyce would drive in Holton with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
After tossing three scoreless innings to begin his outing, Adam Wolf surrendered consecutive homers to Jud Fabian and John Rhodes in the fourth inning to make it a 4-2 lead.
Tim Naughton took over in the fifth and struggled. Bowie loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk. Naughton then hit Max Wagner with a pitch to force home a run and make it 4-3. Fabian then hit a bloop single to tie the game at four. Rhodes punched a two-run single which gave Bowie a 6-4 lead.
It took until the ninth inning for Erie to mount a rally. Ben Malgeri led off with a triple. Bigbie followed it with his second opposite-field blast of the game. The two-run home run tied the game at six.
In the 10th inning against Andrew Magno, Connor Pavalony led off with an RBI double to score the free runner. Later in the frame, Wagner added an insurance run on a two-out, RBI single.
Keagan Gillies (2-1) got the win. Magno (2-2) took the loss. Nick Richmond earned his third save.
The series continues on Thursday at 6:05 p.m. as Bryan Sammons opposes Brandon Young.
