Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - Gateway blasted three home runs on their way to six runs in the second inning in what was eventually a 9-3 victory for the Grizzlies over the Y'alls Saturday night at Y'alls Ballpark.
Jonathan Vance made his Florence debut on the mound, and after a 1-2-3 first inning, Gateway exploded in the second inning. Vance hit Dustin Woodcock with a pitch, and the next batter Andres Regnault lined one out of the park to left field to give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead. Nick Rotola followed with a home run of his own to go back-to-back for Gateway. A walk to Dylan Jones briefly interrupted the home run party, setting up Justin Jones for a two-run shot to extend the lead to 5-0. Nate Ethridge doubled home a run later in the inning for a 6-0 lead.
Gateway tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on a Dylan Jones two-run single, and Ethridge brought home another run in the ninth inning on a fielder's choice ground out.
The win for Gateway (9-19) snaps a six-game losing streak for the Grizzlies. Florence (18-10) drops just its second game of the season to Gateway but has lost three of its five games this week.
The Y'alls did make things interesting in the ninth inning with three consecutive hits leading to three runs. Joe Lytle started the ninth with a double, and Luis Pintor traded places with him with an RBI-double of his own. Chad Sedio added some fireworks with a home run, but that is all Florence could put on the board in the loss.
Vance gets hit with the loss in his Y'alls debut, working through five innings. He allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits. He walked two and struck out five. Drew Clavenna made his professional debut for the Grizzlies and earned the win by pitching five shutout innings. Though he struck out just one and walked three batters, Clavenna only allowed four hits.
Lytle had two hits for the Y'alls, as did Sedio. Ethridge, Woodcock, and Justin Jones all had a multi-hit performance for Gateway.
The Y'alls look to win the series tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 27 by sending Jonaiker Villalobos to the mound. Game time at Y'alls Ballpark is at 2:59p ET, and gates open one hour prior to first pitch. Tomorrow will be the last chance to see the Y'alls at home until July 6 as Florence hits the road for six games next week.
