Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - Cincinnati Reds RHP Paul Wilson will make a rehab start for the Dayton Dragons Thursday night at Fifth Third Field against the Peoria Chiefs. Wilson previously pitched in an extended spring training game with the Reds in Sarasota, Florida. Wilson is eyeing a return to the Reds starting rotation following a shoulder operation in June of 2005 that cut short his season after just nine starts. In 2005 with the Reds, Wilson was 1-5 with a 7.77 ERA in 46.1 innings of work.

The right hander was originally drafted out of Florida State University by the New York Mets as the number one overall selection in the 1994 June free agent draft. After two seasons in the minor leagues, Wilson made his debut with the Mets in 1996, appearing in 26 games (all as a starter) and posting a 5-12 record with a 5.38 ERA in 149.0 innings of work. From 1997 through 1999, Wilson missed parts of all of three seasons due to both surgery on his right shoulder and right elbow. He returned to the Major Leagues in 2000 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays appearing in 11 games, seven as a starting pitcher. Following the 2002 season in which he made a career high 30 starts, Wilson inked a two year deal with the Reds. In November of 2004, Wilson signed an extension with Cincinnati, carrying him through the 2006 season.

Wilson is expected to throw 90 pitches in his rehab assignment with the Dragons in the third game of a four game series with the Peoria Chiefs, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Thursday's first pitch at Fifth Third Field is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
