The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays defeated the Burlington Bees tonight by a score of 4-2. The game lasted a mere two hours but the Devil Rays put on a show for the Thirsty Thursday fans by coming back twice in the game.
Lefty Mike Wlodarczyk picked up his first Midwest League victory, yielding just one earned run in seven innings of work. He allowed three hits while walking one and fanning four. Wlodarczyk has allowed just two earned runs in his last four outings and lowered his ERA to 1.98.
Burlington struck first when Miguel Vega tallied a sacrifice RBI in the top of the second. The Devil Rays responded in the home half of the fourth when J.T. Hall deposited a Matt Kniginyzky offering into the left field corner, scoring John Matulia from second base and tying the game at one a piece.
Burlington went back on top in the fifth frame as Jose Duarte tripled in Miguel Vega for an unearned run. The Devil Rays answered again in the bottom of the fifth when Matt Spring led off with a home run off of the scoreboard in left field. Spring's round tripper was his third of the year and knotted the ballgame at 2-2.
The Rays would seize the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Rousseve led off with a triple, collecting his first extra base hit of the season. John Matulia followed with a bouncer up the middle, chasing in Rousseve for a 3-2 Devil Rays' advantage. The Rays added their final tally on a one-out, bases-loaded groundout by Spring, scoring Ryan Bethel.
Aaron Walker came out of the bullpen to toss a scoreless eighth. Greg Dupas entered in the ninth and registered his second save of the year. Rhyne Hughes had his nine game hitting streak snapped with a 0-4 night at the plate. The Devil Rays defense committed a season-high four errors.
