Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs evened up their series with Wichita on Tuesday, beating the Wingnuts 9-4 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 43-37 on the season, 14-18 in the second half.
The Saltdogs broke open a 1-1 game in the bottom of the sixth. Wichita starter Gabe Medina (3-7) walked the first three men he faced in the frame, giving him eight walks on the night. Juan Camacho then gave Lincoln a 3-1 lead with a two-run double. Roberto Alvarez came up with runners on second and third, and hit a three-run home run to put the 'Dogs up by five and chase Medina from the ballgame.
Lincoln starter Jim Paduch (7-6) labored at times through six innings, but gave up just one run on six hits while striking out three. The Saltdogs carried a 6-1 lead into the eighth, but Wichita plated three runs in the top of the inning to pull within 6-4. The Saltdogs, however, started one more rally with two out in the bottom of the eighth. A pair of two-out singles brought Pat Trettel to the plate, who hit the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence for a three-run homer that put the game away. Adam Daniels, who came on in the top of the eighth to get Lincoln out of trouble, pitched a perfect ninth to earn his third save.
Juan Richardson had the only multi-hit night for Lincoln, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Alvarez's home run was his fourth of the season, while Trettel now has six home runs in 2010.
The two teams play the rubber match of their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05. Right-hander Chris Cullen will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
