Lincoln Homers Beat Wingnuts

LINCOLN, NE- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 9-4 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Tuesday night.

Lincoln plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-1 lead. Wingnuts' starter Gabe Medina issued consecutive walks to Rafael Alvarez, Juan Richardson, and Argelis Nunez. Juan Camacho doubled off the bottom of the left field fence to score Alvarez and Richardson to give Lincoln their first lead of the series at 3-1. Roberto Alvarez broke the game open with a three-run home run to left field that signaled the end of the night for Medina.

Medina took the loss, allowing six earned runs in five-plus innings, striking out four and walking eight. Jim Paduch earned the win for the Saltdogs, allowing one earned run in six innings.

Wichita rallied in the top of the eighth. Cesar Suarez lined a two-out, two-run single to left field to cut the Saltdogs' lead to 6-3. Two batters later, Josh Horn grounded a single through the left side to make it 6-4. Lincoln's Adam Daniels relieved Brendon Smith and struck out Ryan Patterson to end the threat.

Lincoln re-extended the lead in the bottom of the inning against Luke Massetti. With two outs and no one on base, Vance Albitz and Albenis Machado hit back-to-back singles. Pat Trettel was next and hit the Saltdogs' second three-run homer of the night, this one also to left-center field.

The Wingnuts scored the first run of the game on an RBI groundout from Jorge Delgado in the top of the third. Lincoln tied it in the fourth when Rafael Alvarez scored on a wild pitch from Medina.

Jacob Wiley pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Medina. Carlos Rivera collected three hits. Patterson's hitting streak came to an end at 16 games.
