
Big Inning Sets Pace

Scoring four runs in the first inning the Calgary Vipers (18-13) carried a lead throughout and defeated the Strong Warriors of Maui (11-15) 10-2 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta before 2566 fans. After taking a 4-0 lead Calgary put the game away late with two runs in the sixth and another three in the seventh. At the plate Calgary's Aaron Dunsmore led the way with three hits and two runs batted in while Jonny Kaplan had two hits and three RBI. Getting the start Dusty Gober (3-1) went six innings and allowed only one earned run while walking only one for the win. Out of the bullpen J.J. Whetsel threw two scoreless innings without giving up a hit and striking out two while Dan Morari tossed a three-up, three-down ninth inning including one strikeout.
John Holley Jr. (0-3) took the loss after not recording an out in the first inning and allowing four runs.
Calgary opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Jonny Kaplan hit a leadoff home run for his second big fly of the season. Bryan Burke followed by walked, Wilver Perez was hit by a pitch, Drew Miller walked to load the bases, both Justin Tellam and Louie Templeton walked for runs batted in, and Aaron Dunsmore singled for a RBI and a 4-0 advantage.
Maui got a run back in the third inning when Patrick Rose doubled, Charles Tiffany Jr. reached on a fielding error, and Gered Mochizuki collected a RBI groundout for a 4-1 score.
The Vipers answered in the bottom of the frame as Templeton, Jimmy Rohan, and Dunsmore all singled for a run and a 5-1 lead.
After a couple scoreless innings Calgary put up two runs in the sixth when Dusty Gober and Perez walked while Miller cranked a two-run double for a 7-1 advantage.
The Strong Warriors got a run back in the seventh inning as Stephan Pearson and Rose singled while Steve Boggs grounded out for a RBI and a 7-2 score.
In the bottom of the frame the Snakes scored when Rohan singled, Dunsmore doubled, Kaplan drove in two with a base hit, and Perez doubled for a RBI and a 10-2 lead.
Calgary concludes this four game series against the Strong Warriors of Maui on Sunday June 26th at 1:35 as it will be Kids Day with the Inflatamaniacs performing and a Family Pack for $60.00.
On Toonie Tuesday June 28th at 6:30 the Vipers will host Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions for 80s Night. Canseco will be available to the media before the game at 4:00. The two teams will also play on Weiner Wednesday June 29th at 6:30 for $5.00 Student Night, on Thursday June 30th at 7:30 for FIREWORKS, on Canada Day Friday July 1st at 1:05 for Baseball Bonanza, and on Saturday July 2nd at 5:05.
The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
