Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals played the second match of a four-game series against the Yuma Scorpions on Friday night at TELUS Field and had another impressive showing against player-manager Jose Canseco and his squad. The Caps dominated the Scorpions 13-1 and have won both games in the series thus far.

Pitcher Rory Shortell started on the mound for the Caps and threw a solid six and one-third innings to keep the Scorpions at bay, allowing the lone run on just five hits while striking out four opposing batters.

Caps hitters went to work again to combine for 13 total runs, including another two-run home run from centre fielder Steve Brown to give him an impressive five longballs in just seven games played this season. Right fielder Tom Collaro also had a productive night at the plate with four RBI, while left fielder Todd Linden and shortstop Enrique Cruz chipped in with two RBI apiece to contribute to the Caps' lopsided victory.

Canseco, a former MLB superstar and American League MVP, drove in Yuma's only run of the evening on an RBI groundout in the first inning. The 46-year-old left fielder's only other plate appearance of the evening was a fly-out to right field before he subbed himself out once the Caps had a 7-1 lead.

With their second straight win, the Caps improved to 17-11 on the North American League season, as they continue to close in on the first-place Lake County Fielders in the North Division standings.

The third game of the four-game series takes place Saturday at 7 p.m. and is another edition of Saturday Night Movies presented by 96.3 Capital FM and Herbers Autobody & Repair. Saturday's game is also Taylor Hall Bobblehead Night, presented by Herbers Autobody & Repair, with free limited edition bobbleheads of the Edmonton Oilers 2010 first-overall draft pick for the first 500 fans at the game.
