Roadrunners and Thunder Split Twin Bill

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners split the double-header with the McAllen Thunder after a 10-4 loss in game one and a 4-0 win in game two Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

In game one, the Thunder (13-13) got on the scoreboard in the top of the first when Wilson Batista reached on a walk and then stole second and third but a throwing error allowed him to come in and score giving McAllen the 1-0 lead.

In the McAllen added four runs in the top of the third off with an RBI single from Yaibel Tamayo and a two-run triple by Mike Goss extending their lead to 5-0.

C.J. Beatty got the Roadrunners (10-16) on the board in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run, his fifth of the season, cutting the Thunder lead 5-2.

McAllen extended their lead in the top of the fourth with five runs in the inning knocking Goudeau out of the ball game and making it 10-2.

Edinburg added a run in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Stantrel Smith and another run in the bottom of the seventh on the RBI single by Brandon Wilkerson to make it 10-4.

Rashad Ford (2-0) went the distance giving the Thunder the 10-4 victory while picking up his second win of the season.

In game two, C.J. Beatty got the scoring started for the Roadrunners (11-16) in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to right field that allowed Wellington Dotel to score making it 1-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Roadrunners offense got Guerra some more run support. Stantrel Smith led off with a single and then stole second. Robert Matlock then followed with an RBI single scoring Smith from second. After a single by Beatty and an error that moved runners to second and third, Brandon Wilkerson hit a two-run single to right field scoring Beatty and Matlock extending Edinburg's lead 4-0.

Aaron Guerra (4-2) pitched the complete game shutout for his fourth victory of the season and giving the Roadrunners the 4-0 victory. He scattered four hits while striking out four.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will continue their series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Scott Wingo (1-2) is expected to face Justin Jordan (1-4) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
