Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO- The Outlaws give up 17 hits in 9-7 loss to the Lake County Fielders.

In their first ever visit to Chico, the Lake County Fielders jumped all over Outlaws starter Demetrius Banks (2-3). The Fielders opened the game with three straight singles; lead-off man Brandon Newton scored on Lino Garcia's single to score the game's first run. With runners on first and second, C.J. Ziegler lined a single to left field to score Rex Rundgren from second and build a 2-0 lead.

The Outlaws would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. After an errant throw by Rundgren that allowed Al Quintana to get on base, Darrick Hale hit a double off Fielders starter Vince Bongiovanni (3-0). Two batters later, Hale would come home on a single by Kurt Steinhauer to tie the game at two apiece.

The Fielders reclaimed the lead in the next half-inning. After an Argelis Nunez single, Matt Mansilla hit a double to right-center field that fell between Chris Lubanski and Jake Rife to score Nunez and put the Fielders on top 3-2.

Lake County would add a single run in the sixth inning and deliver the knockout punch in the seventh. With two outs and a run already across in the inning, Fielders pitcher Bongiovanni stepped up to the plate with runners on first and third. Bongiovanni, already 2-2 on the day with a walk, sent a Josh Giles fastball the opposite way over the right-centerfield wall to put the Fielders up 8-2.

The Outlaws would put together a rally in the eighth inning highlighted by a grand slam by Quintana, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit. Bongiovanni gets his 3rd win of the season; he went seven strong innings, allowing only one earned run on three hits.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow night with a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, you can watch the game live in high quality on Justin.tv. In the meantime, be sure to follow the Outlaws on Facebook and Twitter to stay up-to-date on all your team news.
