Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO- The Outlaws get another strong start from Jason Stevenson (2-0) to get the victory, 3-2. Stevenson pitched deep into the game for the second straight time. He threw 7.1 innings while allowing just one run on five hits as well as recording eight strikeouts.
The Outlaws were the first to get on the scoreboard Saturday night at Nettleton stadium. Centerfielder Chris Lubanski sent a double to left field and scored on a bobbled throw by Fielders shortstop Rex Rundgren. The next hitter Al Quintana reached first on a single and advanced to second on the Rundgren error. Patrick Terry, the newest Outlaw, would hit an RBI double to deep right-centerfield to score the Outlaws second run of the inning to put the home team on top 2-0.
Chico would add an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lead-off hitter Darrick hale started the inning with a line-drive to right field to put himself on first base. A single by Terry and a sacrifice bunt by Danny Gonzalez would leave Hale on third. Pitcher Jason Stevenson then hit a groundball to third to score Hale and increase the lead to 3-0.
Lake County had their best opportunity to score in the top of the eighth inning. The Fielders had the bases loaded with only one out and Rex Rundgren at the plate. Rundgren would pick up the RBI but grounded out to third for the second out of the inning. Former Outlaw, Lino Garcia, stepped up to the plate as the go-ahead run, but could only manage a ground out to short to end the inning and kill the Fielders rally.
In the top of the ninth inning, Outlaws closer Omar Aguilar would come into the game to preserve the pitching gem by Stevenson. Aguilar would make the game interesting by allowing a homerun to the inning's lead-off man Argelis Nunez to bring the Fielders within one, 3-2. However, that is as close as the Fielders would come tonight as Aguilar got the final two outs to secure the Outlaws victory.
Chico will face Lake County again tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. before getting three days off. The game can be seen on Justin.tv in high quality if you can't make it to the game. Also, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up-to-date on your Outlaws news.
