Norfolk Tides News Release

Norfolk set season-highs with four home runs and 16 base hits in a 12-4 rout of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Tuesday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Robert Andino homered twice and drove in four in the rout, while Scott Moore and Josh Bell each added two-run shots. The multi-homer game for Andino was the second for a Tides player this year and the first for the 25-year-old since he clubbed two in a game for Triple-A Albuquerque during the 2007 season.

Home runs by Andino and Moore gave Norfolk a 3-0 lead entering the fourth frame before the Tides exploded for nine runs against Yankees starter Zach McAllister (0-2) and reliever Amauri Sanit. Norfolk collected nine hits - including homers by Andino and Bell - in the decisive inning, as they plated nine runs in an inning for the first time since the 2005 season.

Seven different Tides batters collected multiple hits in the win, helping Norfolk salvage a split of the four-game set.

The offensive explosion was more than enough for Tides starter Jake Arrieta, who improved his record to 3-1 with the win. Arrieta worked around a season-high five walks in five innings of work, as he allowed two hits and two runs while striking out three.

The 24-year-old yielded two runs, a hit and three walks in the fifth inning after sitting for nearly a half an hour during Norfolk's nine-run outburst. Arrieta's ERA through six starts now stands at 1.50.

Jim Johnson allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth inning for the Tides in his first outing with Norfolk since he was optioned from Baltimore.

Norfolk will enjoy its first off day of the season Wednesday before welcoming the Toledo Mud Hens to Harbor Park on Thursday for the start of a four-game set. Chris George (1-1, 4.24) will make his second start of the year for the Tides against right-hander Armando Galarraga (3-2, 2.30), with first pitch slated for 7:15.
