Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Gwinnett Braves catcher Christian Bethancourt will represent the Atlanta Braves organization and the World team on Sunday, July 13 in the 16th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, to be held at Target Field in Minneapolis, MN. Both the United States and World team rosters were announced by Major League Baseball this afternoon.

Bethancourt, 22, is the fifth active Gwinnett Braves player to be selected for the annual showcase game that is included as part of Major League Baseball's All-Star Game festivities. First baseman Barbaro Canizares (World Team, 2009), left-hander Mike Minor (U.S. Team, 2010), right-hander Julio Teheran (World Team, 2011, 2012) and outfielder Joey Terdoslavich (U.S. Team, 2013) have all been selected to the Futures Game in previous seasons. Last season, Terdoslavich did not participate in the game due to his promotion to Atlanta.

A Panama City, Panama native, Bethancourt has been one of the best hitters in the Gwinnett Braves lineup this season. As of June 24, he is batting .265 (58-for-219) with 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 30 RBIs. He is fifth on the team in doubles and is tied for the second in RBIs. This will be the third straight Futures Game appearance for Bethancourt, who joins Cleveland Indians' shortstop Francisco Lindor as players to make three straight appearances for the World team.

The 16th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will take place at 5 PM ET on Sunday, July 13, at Target Field in Minneapolis, and it can be seen live on MLB.com and MLB Network.

Bethancourt and the Gwinnett Braves continue the 10-game homestand on Tuesday night at Coolray Field as they open a four-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM. Aaron Northcraft (0-0, 0.00) will make his Triple-A debut for the G-Braves, while the Mud Hens will start left-hander Duane Below (6-1, 3.94). Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call beginning at 6:20 PM on WDUN.com, GwinnettBraves.com, Tune-In Radio and the MiLB First Pitch app.

Tuesday is "Two-for-Tuesday" at Coolray Field, as all fans can purchase two (2) Infield Box or Field Box tickets for the price of one! Hot dogs are also half price. Tickets are on sale now at the Coolray Field Ticket Office, call 678-277-0340 or visit GwinnettBraves.com to purchase.
