Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 4-3, on Tuesday night from NBT Bank Stadium. The game was the first of a scheduled two-game doubleheader. Game two was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a Wednesday doubleheader starting at 5:00.

Gates for Wednesday's doubleheader will open at 4:00 before the 5:00 scheduled start time. Tickets for Tuesday's doubleheader will be honored as rainout tickets and are eligible to be used for any other regular-season game for the rest of the season.

Lehigh Valley (38-41) got on the board in the first inning off Syracuse left-hander Zach Kroenke. Leandro Castro led the game off with a triple to right-center field. Castro scored on a Tyler Henson base hit to give the IronPigs a 1-0 lead. Henson stole second base, and three batters later, Maikel Franco then singled to left field, and Henson scored from second, for a 2-0 Lehigh Valley advantage.

Syracuse (48-30) responded with a run in the bottom half of the first. Emmanuel Burriss led off with a triple to the left-center field gap off Lehigh Valley right-hander Chris Bootcheck. Jeff Kobernus then grounded out to second, but Burriss scored to cut Lehigh Valley's lead to one.

The Chiefs took the lead in the third inning with three straight doubles. With one out, Burriss singled up the middle. After a Kobernus pop out, Steven Souza, Jr. doubled off the center-field wall, and Burriss scored to tie the game at two. Syracuse took the lead on a Tyler Moore double that scored Souza for a 3-2 Chiefs lead. Zach Walters then doubled to score Moore and give Syracuse a two-run lead, 4-2.

The IronPigs cut the Chiefs' lead to one in the sixth inning. With two outs, Sebastian Valle doubled to left field. That marked the end off the night for Kroenke, as Daniel Stange came in to relieve the Syracuse starting pitcher. Andres Blanco, the first batter Stange faced, singled to left field to score Valle and cut the score to 4-3. Stange would retire pinch-hitter Nate Spears, however, on a groundout, before Warner Madrigal finished a perfect seventh,

Syracuse and Lehigh Valley finish their two-day, three-game series with a Wednesday doubleheader. Chiefs right-handers Taylor Hill and Manny Delcarmen will start against IronPigs left-hander Greg Smith and right-hander Hector Neris.
