Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth â The Fort Worth Brahmas continued their search today for the right combination defensively, as blueliner Justin Berry was signed to a contract and d-man Ivan Curic was placed on waivers.
Berry, 6'1", 192, is a 23-year old rearguard from Ancaster, Ontario. He originally turned pro last season with the Muskegon Fury (United Hockey League), and played in 38 games, registering 2 assists and 10 penalty minutes. This year, he went back to Muskegon, and skated in five games, not totaling a point.
Berry practiced with the Brahmas this morning, and he will make his Fort Worth debut tonight.
To make room for Berry on the roster, Fort Worth head coach Al Sims placed defenseman Ivan Curic on waivers. Curic's stay with the Brahmas was brief, as he was just signed by the club last Saturday, and played in just three games, picking up one assist and nine penalty minutes.
Fort Worth also received a piece of bad news late yesterday afternoon. Chad Woollard, the Brahmas team captain and leading scorer, has been issued a two game suspension by the Central Hockey League for an elbowing incident last Saturday night, Jan. 10 in the Brahmas 4-3 loss to the Memphis RiverKings. After a videotape review of the game, the CHL hockey operations department suspended Woollard for his elbow to the jaw of RiverKings d-man Stephen Margeson. Woollard will not play tonight against San Angelo and tomorrow night versus Oklahoma City.
Fort Worth is 5-2-3 in their last ten games and they will be looking to match a season high three-game winning streak tonight with a victory over the Saints. Tomorrow night, the Brahmas will try to win for the second consecutive time over their chief Northwest Division rivals, the Oklahoma City Blazers. Game time for both games this weekend is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
