Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: Outfielder Roger Bernadina blasted two home runs in the Albuquerque Isotopes' (37-46) series-opening 10-2 win against the Las Vegas 51s (46-37) Saturday night at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, NV. Bernadina now has four homers and 13 RBI in his last seven games.
THE TURNING POINT: Albuquerque scored early and often Saturday, never letting Las Vegas creep back into the game. Kyle Parker led off the second inning with a double and scored on Roger Bernadina's groundout. Rafael Ynoa followed that up by tripling to leadoff the third and scoring on a Cristhian Adames single. A three-run fourth essentially put the nail in the coffin for Las Vegas. Ynoa doubled in Tim Wheeler and then scored on another double by Trevor Story. Adames capped the inning with another RBI single. The 51s managed to tack on two runs in the home half of the fourth. For the rest of the night, Albuquerque relied on the long ball as Dustin Garneau mashed a two-run homer in the fifth. Bernadina then blasted a pair of homers, a two-run shot in the seventh and solo bomb in the ninth.
MOVING LIKE BERNIE: Outfielder Roger Bernadina blasted a pair of home runs Saturday night, his first multi-homer game of the season. He finished the night 2-for-5 with two homers, two runs scored and four RBI. During his last seven games, he is batting .429 (11-for-26) with nine runs scored, a triple, four homers and 13 RBI.
YNOA WHAT I MEAN?: Utility man Rafael Ynoa got his first start in an Isotopes uniform after joining Albuquerque on Friday. Batting leadoff, Ynoa turned in a 3-for-5 game with a triple, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. He also picked up a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth of Friday night's game.
GOING, GOING, GARNEAU: Catcher Dustin Garneau blasted a two-run home run in the fifth inning. It was his 11th of the year, which ties for tops on the team with Matt McBride. He finished the game 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, two runs scored and two RBI. During his last 15 games, Garneau is now batting .356 (21-for-59) with 13 runs scored, six doubles, six homers, 18 RBI and six walks. He's also only struck out seven times during that stretch.
ATTA BOY ADAMES: Just two nights after his walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth, infielder Cristhian Adames turned in a 3-for-4 game with two runs scored and a walk. During his last nine games, Adames is now batting .476 (20-for-42) with eight runs scored, four doubles, two homers and 11 RBI.
DOUBLE PARKE(R)D: Kyle Parker roped a pair of doubles Saturday night, driving in two runs. He finished the game 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Parker now has hits in his last six games and is batting .346 (9-for-26) with six runs scored, three doubles, two triples and six RBI during that stretch.
STREAK NUMBERS: Saturday night's win snapped an eight-game losing streak to the 51s. Las Vegas swept the previous series against the Isotopes. Albuquerque has now won five of its last seven games overall. The Topes longest losing streak to a single team is 11 games to Oklahoma City, which is currently active. The Isotopes longest winning streak against a single opponent is also 11 games against Las Vegas from 2003-05.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and 51s will play game two of their four-game series Sunday night at 8:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Aaron Laffey (2-2, 5.06 ERA) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Las Vegas will send right-hander Dillon Gee (1-1, 13.50 ERA)
IN THE HOLE: After their four-game stop at Las Vegas, the Isotopes will conclude the pre-All-Star Break schedule with a five-game series at the El Paso Chihuahuas. Albuquerque's next home game will follow the All-Star on July 16.
