
Grizzlies Roar Past Rainiers, 10-3 Jesus Montero collects three hits, swats 14th home run

FRESNO, Calif. - A six-run sixth inning powered the Fresno Grizzlies to a 10-3 series-opening victory over the Tacoma Rainiers at Chukchansi Park on Saturday night.
Starting pitcher Sam Gaviglio worked 5.2 innings for the Rainiers, allowing a season-high eight runs on 10 hits, while walking two and striking out two more.
Tacoma held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning - a Carlos Rivero RBI double and a two-run home run from Jesus Montero in the first inning provided the trio of Tacoma runs.
Gaviglio earned outs in the first two at bats of the sixth inning, but allowed four singles, one walk, and a three-run home run to Tony Kemp to give the Grizzlies the 8-3 lead.
Jesus Montero extended his hitting streak to seven games with his 3-for-4 performance - over the last seven games Montero is hitting .607 with eight runs, two home runs, and seven RBI.
Logan Bawcom and Tyler Olson both surrendered a run working in relief of Gaviglio - the pair combined to allow six hits with three strikeouts.
Left-hander Vidal Nuno (0-0, -.--) makes his debut for the Rainiers (41-42) as they continue their series with Fresno (48-35) tomorrow, July 5. The Grizzlies will call upon the services of southpaw Luis Cruz (4-3, 4.32). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
