Memphis Redbirds News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Memphis Redbirds put on an offensive display to rival any fireworks show on Independence Day, blasting the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 15-1. Not to be overshadowed, starter Zach Petrick was dominant on the mound, shutting down the Sky Sox over his 7.2 innings of work.

Memphis' 15 runs scored on Saturday are the most the team has scored all season, topping the 11 plated on June 9 against Iowa. The Redbirds' 22 hits are also a new team season-high, and were just two shy of the franchise record of 24.

All 10 Redbirds who came to the plate on Saturday recorded a hit, including multi-hits efforts from Rafael Ortega (2), Dean Anna (3), Cody Stanley (5), Jeremy Hazelbaker (3), Nick Martini (2), Matt Williams (2), and Zach Petrick (2).

Memphis wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, dropping a five-run first inning on Colorado Springs starter Tim Dillard. After the first run of the contest was scored on an error, Cody Stanley and Nick Martini delivered back-to-back RBI doubles, with Matt Williams capping off the frame with an RBI single.

Five runs were not enough for the Redbirds, as Memphis plated seven more in the top half of the second inning. Dan Johnson, Cody Stanley, Jeremy Hazelbaker, and Matt Williams each knocked in runs during the frame.

Memphis added another run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Dan Johnson. Yet another would come in the seventh inning, which saw Cody Stanley knock in his fourth RBI of the game on his fifth hit, the latter a single-game season high for the Redbirds. The 15th and final run of the night would come on an RBI triple from starting pitching Zach Petrick, the first extra-base hit of his professional career.

The 25-year-old Petrick dazzled on the mound, shutting out the Sky Sox over his 7.2 innings of work. The right-hander allowed the first fly ball out of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, with the previous 19 outs either coming by groundout or strikeout. With the victory, Petrick has not allowed a run in each of his last two starts (17.2 innings).

The Redbirds and Sky Sox continue their four-game series Sunday afternoon from Colorado Springs, with Tyler Lyons (5-4, 3.10) toeing the rubber for the Redbirds. The left-hander will be opposed by Sky Sox hurler Tyler Thornburg (1-4, 4.76). First pitch from Security Service Field is set for 2:35pm CT.
