WICHITA, KS- Wichita Thunder right wing Jesse Bennefield has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for January 17th-23rd.

Bennefield helped the Thunder to a perfect 4-0-0 record last week, scoring four goals and three assists with a +6 rating. The Calgary, Alberta native is riding a six-game goal scoring streak and an eight-game point streak. The goal scoring streak is one shy of the CHL's season-high, held by Chad Woollard of Texas and Brandon Naurato of Dayton.

Bennefield has scored at least one point in 28 of 38 games this season, and ranks sixth in the CHL in both goals (22) and points (51). The 29-year old Bennefield leads the Thunder with 17 multi-point games.

The accomplishment is the third league-wide honor a Thunder player has received this year. Defenseman Steven Kaunisto was named Player of the Week for October 25th-31st, while right wing A.J. Gale earned Player of the Month honors in December. Bennefield will receive a gift, courtesy of Oakley.

The Thunder hosts the Rapid City Rush on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the arena box office at (316) 755-SEAT or visit the Thunder's official website at www.wichitathunder.com
