Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Brooks Belter pitched seven shutout innings, striking out a career high eight batters as the Traverse City Beach Bums clinched the top seed in the Frontier League playoffs with a 4-1 win over the Gateway Grizzlies.
Scoreless into the fourth inning, the Beach Bums got on the board when Chase Burch hit a solo homer off Grizzlies starter Paul Tremlin. For Burch it was his 16th of the season and gave him 30 RBI in his career against Gateway in 16 games.
Traverse City would tally the remainder of their offense in the fifth inning as Sean Gusrang led off with a walk followed by a Marcus Nidiffer single. Kyle Eveland laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners up a base before a Ryan Still walk loaded the bases. Brian Heere stood in and drew a walk of his own to force home Gusrang for a 2-0 TC lead. Jose Vargas capped the scoring with a line drive back through the middle to bring home Nidiffer and Still to make it 4-0.
Gateway made a bit of noise scoring their only run of the game in the ninth on a bases loaded walk by Chris McClendon to bring home Antone DeJesus, but Matt Miller came on and got Rogelio Noris strike out to end the game.
