NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, began their final six-game homestand of the season with a 7-1 loss on Tuesday night at the Corn Crib.
The Freedom scored twice in the first when a dropped third strike extended the inning and Junior Arrojo scored all the way from second on the play. Florence added a run as Jim Jacquot singled home Eddie Rodriguez, who had been hit by a pitch and advanced to third on the wild pitch.
Florence increased the lead in the third when Rodriguez was again hit by a pitch, this time to lead off the frame, went to second after a walk to Drew Rundle and scored on a base hit to left by Jacquot to build the advantage to 3-0.
The Freedom made the tally 6-0 in the fourth when David Harris was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, went to second on an Arrojo single and scored on an error. The Freedom added the two additional runs on ground outs. The lead extended to 7-0 in the fifth on an RBI single by Arrojo.
The CornBelters put up an unearned run in the seventh as Ernie Banks Jr. doubled with two outs and scored on an error.
Brad Allen (3-1) earned the win in his second professional start by facing only two batters more than the minimum in his seven innings. Tyler Lavigne (5-9) took the loss.
