Last time out...
The Joliet Slammers (35-54) lost their 11th straight game Saturday as they fell by a score of 6-1 to the River City Rascals (43-46). Erik Lis took River City starter Justin Sarratt deep for his eighth home run of the season in the second. With one out in the third, Ben Hewett doubled and with two away Doug Sanders singled him home. The game remained tied until the fifth when Chris Andreas took Joliet starter Jim Schult deep for a home run . The Rascals proceeded to load the bases with nobody out and Schult hit Sanders to force in a run. A Jason Patton sacrifice fly made it 4-1 in favor of River City. The Rascals added a run in the seventh and the ninth . Sarratt (2-3) picked up the win as he went seven innings and only gave up the one run on three hits. Sarratt struck out 10 Slammers along the way. Schult (5-8) took the loss as he went five and two thirds innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.
For Starters...
Jacob Sanchez is coming off an abbreviated outing against the Florence Freedom on August 22. He went two plus innings, giving up four runs on five hits. Sanchez was ejected from the game in the third inning for arguing a call at first base. He picked up a no-decision as the Slammers lost 6-4. Sanchez was the Midwest Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2012. Sanchez finished the 2012 Iowa Wesleyan season with a 10-2 record and a 2.42 earned run average, including 111 strikeouts, 12 walks, 71 hits allowed and 28 runs allowed (25 earned) in 93 innings pitched. He led the MCC in strikeouts and innings pitched, was second in wins and third in earned run average and opponents' batting average (.208). Sanchez obliterated the Iowa Wesleyan single season strikeout record, becoming the first player in school history to go over 100 K's in a season, and also tied the school record for wins in a season. He also was a recipient of a Gold Glove award with one error in 29 chances in the field.

He becomes the third Slammer signed by the Dodgers in recent weeks as he joins RHP Amalio Diaz and RHP Daniel Carela in LA's system. Brown is the seventh Slammer signed to affiliated ball in team history. Brown leaves the Frontier League as the league-leader in appearances this year with 44. He finished with a 3.67 ERA in 41.2 innings with 46 strike outs.
