
Miners Drop Opener in Schaumburg

Schaumburg, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners were defeated by the Schaumburg Boomers 5-2 on Tuesday evening at Boomers Stadium. Miners starter Brian Fowler pitched five strong innings and gave up three runs, one walk and struck out six batters. Fowler earned his tenth loss of the season.
The Miners took an early lead 1-0 when Chris Anderson hit a base hit with the bases loaded off Boomers stater Robby Donovan. The Miners had another run scored on the play but Jason Ganek missed third base as he scored and was ultimately called out on the play. Schaumburg scored three runs off Fowler in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead.
The Miners scored another run in the top off the sixth inning off Donovan when Cory Harrilchak hit a sacrifice fly with one out to score Javier Herrera. That run would bring the Miners within one run and make the score 3-2 in favor of Schaumburg. The Boomers scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning off Miners reliever Reese McGraw to take a 5-2 lead. Schaumburg would hold on and win the game 5-2.
The Miners would fall to 53-37 on the season with the loss. The Miners send David Harden to the mound on Wednesday afternoon to even up the series. The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show on the Miners Radio Network gets underway at 12:40 with Mike Ventola. First pitch is at 1:00 pm.
