Joliet Slammers News Release

(Washington, PA) - The Joliet Slammers (35-55) took a 3-0 lead through three but after that it was all Washington Wild Things (40-51) as Joliet fell by a score of 12-4 Tuesday night.

Joliet got on the board in the second against Washington starter Gary Lee (7-4). With one out David Christensen singled and Kyle Maunus blasted his ninth home run of the season to put the Slammers up 2-0.

Abel Nieves crushed a pitch over the batter's eye in dead center field in the third to extend the lead to 3-0.

But the Wild Things got to Joliet starter Jacob Sanchez (4-2) in the fourth. AJ Nunziato hit a home run to start the inning. Gus Benusa followed with a triple and Mark Samuelson hit a RBI grounder to make the score 3-2. Rick Devereaux homered and the game was tied at three.

They took the lead over Joliet in the fifth on a Brad Agustin home run. One out later Andrew Heck singled. He stole second and scored on a Mark Samuelson single with two away.

Sanchez took the loss as he went five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Mike Barsotti entered in the sixth and gave up a couple of runs on a Heck two-RBI single.

Trailing 7-3 entering the seventh, things unraveled for Joliet as Washington scored five runs with two outs. The big hit was a bases clearing double from Jovan Rosa.

Joliet would get one back in the ninth on a RBI single from Eric McGee but Lee went the distance to pick up the win for Washington.

The Slammers will look to break their losing streak Wednesday night as they send Tommy Mendoza to the mound. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. Central Time and all the action can be heard on AM 1340 WJOL and online at www.wjol.com.
