Beloit Snappers drop one to Swing
August 14, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit was unable to overcome an early deficit in the first game of what is perhaps the most important series of the year. A big three-run, first inning was the tempo-setter for The Swing of the Quad Cities, as they defeated The Beloit Snappers 7 to 1 at Pohlman Field. Beloit's starter, Zach Ward ran into trouble in the first inning by loading the bases with no outs, then surrendering a base-clearing double to Mark Hamilton. Ward then settled in to a rhythm, pitching three scoreless innings as well as a 2-run 5th before leaving in the 6th. Donnie Smith pitched five solid innings for the visiting Swing, surrendering only one run on three hits. Smith got great run support from Mark Hamilton and Dan Nelson who together produced five of the Swing's seven RBI. Beloit's lone run came in the bottom of the third after Toby Gardenhire tripled, and Edward Ovalle singled him in.
Upcoming Schedule: The Snappers play three more games at home against The Swing Cities (August 15-17th), followed by a four-game series (August 18th-21st) against The Clinton Lumber Kings.
