MOTTE NEW ADDITION TO SWING ARSENAL
The Swing have added another strong arm to the bullpen, as Jason Motte was promoted to Quad Cities from State College on Thursday. The 24-year-old began his professional career as a catcher, but a month into the 2006 season Motte was transferred to extended spring training in order to learn a new trade - pitching. Motte made his pitching debut in State College where he went 1-2 with a 3.08 ERA, he picked up eight saves and threw 25 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work. In his first appearance for the Swing on August 12, Motte faced four batters in his only inning of work, allowing one hit and recording one strikeout.

GAME OF THE WEEK:
Game two of Friday's doubleheader with West Michigan was a rocky ride, but in the end the Swing prevailed with a 7-6 win in ten innings. After dropping game one, things looked bad for Quad Cities when they entered the sixth inning of a seven-inning game trailing, 4-2. But facing the top bullpen in the Midwest League, the Swing never wavered. A two-run single by Daniel Nelson against Anthony Claggett tied the game and forced extra innings. Quad Cities trailed again, 6-4, heading into the bottom of the tenth, but they had one more rally left in them. Three runs against MWL saves-leader Orlando Perdomo gave the Swing the win, as C.J. Smith's walkoff single clinched the 7-6 final.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
When drafting him in the sixth round out of Southern Illinois in June, the St. Louis Cardinals envisioned from LHP Tyler Norrick exactly what they saw last week, when he struck out a league-high 16 batters between a pair of starts. Piggybacking on a start made by Donnie Smith on Tuesday against Clinton, Norrick entered in the sixth inning and dominated the LumberKings. He used a live fastball and a strike out nine in four perfect innings, showing an electric heater in his best outing as a pro. Though he suffered the loss against West Michigan on Sunday, he struck out seven without issuing a walk in seven innings, allowing just one earned run - a solo homer by the Whitecaps' Cameron Maybin.
