
Mexican League Pitcher Joins Wizards

Fort Wayne, IN - Right-hander Joakim Soria, a recent free agent signing by the San Diego Padres, will join the Fort Wayne Wizards pitching staff today.
Soria was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization as a non-drafted free agent in 2001 and released by their system in 2004.
He spent the 2006 season with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the Mexican League where he recorded 15 saves with a 3.89 earned run average in 39 appearances. In 37 innings, Soria allowed 37 hits, issued 11 walks and struck out 30.
Soria was also in the Mexican League in 2005 where went 5-0 with a 4.48 ERA in 30 appearances, including five starts. In 66 1/3 innings last year, he allowed 75 hits and 31 walks, while striking out 60.
With the addition of Soria to the pitching staff, the Wizards current roster is back to the Midwest League maximum of 25 players.
The Wizards continue their current 10-game homestand tonight at 7:00 p.m. with the start of a four-game series against the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate).
