Bees Rally Late for 3-2 Win Over Aces

RENO, Nev.- Aces starter Kevin Mulvey held Salt Lake to just one run over seven innings of work Sunday afternoon, but Reno failed to hold the lead, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Bees at Aces Ballpark.

Mulvey scattered just four hits with a walk and a strikeout in a101-pitch effort. Clinging to a one-run lead, the Aces turned to Yhency Brazoban out of the bullpen in the eighth after Mulvey's exit. Brazoban (3-1) surrendered three hits in the inning, including a two-out, two-run single by Tyson Auer that put the Bees on top for good, 3-2.

At the plate for Reno, Collin Cowgill notched three more hits, stretching his hitting streak to a career-best 14 games. Cole Gillespie added two hits, while Wily Mo Peña doubled and drew a pair of walks.

Salt Lake starter Ryan Ketchner joined Mulvey with a no-decision effort, allowing just two runs on seven hits over six frames. Reliever Amalio Diaz (4-1) earned the win for Salt Lake after tossing two scoreless frames. Barret Browning retired Brandon Allen on a deep fly ball to right center for the first out in the ninth, and Michael Kohn held Reno quiet the rest of the way for his fifth save.

The first-place Aces and Bees will hook-up again on Monday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Barry Enright (2-2, 3.30 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Salt Lake will counter with RHP Bear Bay (2-2, 4.56 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
