Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY -The Salt Lake Bees held off the Nashville Sounds 8-6 in the first game of a four-game series Friday night at Smith's Ballpark in front of 11,514 fans.
Jose Miguel Fernandez had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-4, finishing a triple shy of the cycle at the plate with a two-run home run and an RBI double to lead the Bees offense. Taylor Ward also blasted a home in the victory, his two-run shot came as part of a four-run Bees fifth inning. Jared Walsh finished 1-for-2 with two walks and scored three times on the day.
Griffin Canning set the tone on the hill for Salt Lake, starting and going for five and one third strong innings. He allowed just three runs on four hits while striking out four on the way to his first win of the season. Nashville would mount a late comeback scoring a pair of runs in the ninth inning to make it close, but Jeremy Rhoades was able to enter with the bases loaded and strike out Jorge Mateo to pick up the save and end the game.
The Bees and the Sounds will continue their four-game set Saturday at 6:35 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark. The action on the field will be joined by the action of the movies as the team celebrates Superhero Night. Many heroes from blockbuster movies and comic books will be in attendance to meet and greet with fans. Fireworks will also on display following the game. Tickets are available at slbees.com.
