Chasers Romp to 15-4 Win in Fresno

FRESNO, CA (July 27) - Nicky Lopez had 5 hits, four other Chasers had 3, and the Storm Chasers demolished Fresno 15-4 on Friday night at Chukchansi Park.

Omaha took the lead in to top of the first, as Billy Burns singled, went to 3rd on a single by Nicky Lopez, and scored when Elier Hernandez hit into a fielder's choice. Derek Fisher answered with a solo homer for Fresno in the bottom of the inning, knotting the game at 1-1.

The teams traded runs again in the 2nd. Jack Lopez doubled, Luis Villegas singled, and Billy Burns drove Lopez in with a sacrifice fly. Jack Mayfield hit a home run in the bottom of the frame, making it 2-2.

Omaha reclaimed the lead in the top of the 3rd. Ryan O'Hearn doubled, Elier Hernandez and Ramon Torres singled, and Donnie DeWees and Jack Lopez drove in successive runs with sacrifice flies. It was 4-2.

The Chasers widened the lead to 6-2 in the 4th. Nicky Lopez singled, Frank Schwindel doubled, and Ryan O'Hearn singled both of them home. In the home half, a 2-out walk to Yordan Alvarez and a double by Nick Tanielu plated a run for the Grizzlies, making it 6-3.

Brock Dykxhoorn (L, 5-2) was chased after 3.2 innings; he was charged with 6 runs, 12 hits, and 1 walk, with 3 strikeouts.

The scoring continued in the 5th, as Luis Villegas walked, Billy Burns singled, Nicky Lopez walked, Frank Schwindel singled, and Elier Hernandez singled to give Omaha an 8-3 lead. Fresno cut that to 8-4 on a Jake Marisnick hit-by-pitch, a stolen base, and an RBI single by Tyler White.

Arnaldo Hernandez (W, 2-0) worked through 5 innings for Omaha, scattering 4 runs, 6 hits, and 2 walks. He struck out 2.

The Chasers piled on four more runs in the top of the 6th. Jack Lopez singled, Luis Villegas walked, Billy Burns singled home Lopez, Nicky Lopez singled in Villegas, Frank Schwindel grounded out to plate Burns, and Nicky Lopez scored from 2nd on a wild pitch, bringing the tally to 12-4.

In the 8th, Frank Schwindel drove in Nicky Lopez with a double; it was Omaha's 20th hit of the night, marking the first time they've reached that mark in a game since 2014. Later in the inning, Ramon Torres scored Schwindel with a bloop single, Donnie DeWees doubled in Torres to make it 15-4.

The Storm Chasers ended the game with 23 total hits. Besides Nicky Lopez' 5-hit night, Schwindel, Hernandez, Burns, and Jack Lopez each had 3.

Eric Stout worked 2 scoreless innings of relief for Omaha, and Richard Lovelady tossed a scoreless 8th, and did the same in the 9th to close out an historic, lopsided win.

The Storm Chasers (48-56) will continue the series in Fresno tomorrow night at 9:05 Central. RHP Zack Lovvorn (1-4, 9.25) will face Fresno's RHP Brady Rogers (0-1, 10.57)
