Reno Aces Game Notes 7.28.18 at Round Rock

July 28, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

Today's Game: The Aces pitching staff is coming off their best performance of the season and will look to Matt Koch to keep it going. Koch is making his 5th start of the year for Reno and 16th overall in 2018. Reno has three more games on the road before returning to Greater Nevada Field Wednesday night.

Last Game: Taylor Clarke, Silvino Bracho, and Jimmie Sherfy combined to shutout the Round Rock Express in game one of the four-game series. Clarke went six innings, allowed three hits and struck out four to earn his 9th victory of the season. Silvino Bracho came on with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning and struck out the side to work out of the jam. In the bottom of the eighth, Bracho struck out the side again to set a new career-high in strikeouts (6). Jimmie Sherfy worked the final frame to pick up his 13th save of the year. Kristopher Negron led the Aces offensively with a 2-for-4 performance and a home run in the top of the sixth. The win improves Reno to a record of 52-53 with 35 games left in the regular season.

No Runs For You: With the shutout last night, Round Rock is the only team left in the Pacific Coast League without a shutout. New Orleans and Omaha are tied for the most with nine shutouts tossed this season. The next shutout will be the 50th in Aces franchise history.

Aces Shutouts By Season

2018 - 1 2017 - 4 2016 - 4 2015 - 4

2014 - 8 2013 - 7 2012 - 3 2011 - 4

2010 - 4 2009 - 10

Everybody K's: Silvino Bracho struck out all six batters he faced last night in two innings of work. Bracho entered with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning and struck out the side without allowing a run. He went back out in the bottom of the eighth and tossed a perfect 1-2-3 inning, all by way of the strikeout. His six K's tonight were the most in his professional career.

Show Time: Michael Perez made his Major League debut Thursday night after being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. Perez appeared in 58 games for the Aces prior to his trade and hit .284 with six home runs and 29 RBI. In his Big League debut last night Perez went 1-for-2 with a double. In last night's contest against Baltimore, he went 3-for-4 for his first MLB multi-hit performance.

Cron's Summer: Kevin Cron has played his way into the PCL top-10 leaderboard following a 2-for-3 performance last night. Cron is batting .321 in 70 games with 17 home runs and 75 RBI. Cron and Socrates Brito are the only players in the top-10 in batting with 17+ home runs. Cron is second in the PCL with 75 RBI and second in slugging percentage at .587.

Pipes: On this date last year, San Rafael Pacifics, Lou Evans sang the Star Spangled Banner, becoming first starting pitcher in professional baseball to perform the National Anthem before taking the mound. The 37-year-old southpaw, a 19th round pick of the Marlins in 2001, retires after the game, ending his attempted comeback from a 12-year hiatus from the game due to injuries. Former Aces Zach Borenstein once sang the national anthem on August 22, 2013, in a game between Inland 66ers and Bakersfield Blaze. He went 2-for-4 that day in the DH spot.
