Bees Lose By 1 with Final Out Recorded At Home

Burlington, IA (June 14, 2009) - The Burlington Bees opened their final home series of the first half with a 4-3 loss to Wisconsin. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Patrick Norris reached on an error and Fernando Garcia tried to score from second and was throw out at home to end the ballgame.

Wisconsin scored the first run of the ballgame scoring one run in the top of the second inning. The Bees then tied the game scoring one run in the bottom of the third inning. Juan Rivera led the inning off by reaching on an error and then stole second base. Garcia singled to move Rivera to third. Rivera then scored the Bees' first run of the game on a Norris bunt single. After that run scored, the Bees had the bases loaded with no out but could not get any more runs across.

The Bees then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Nick Van Stratten doubled and then scored on an Eric Hosmer single to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. That lead did not last long as the Timer Rattlers put up three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.

The Bees cut their deficit to one run in the bottom of the sixth scoring one run. With one out, Jose Bonilla doubled and scored on an Antonio Jimenez sacrifice fly. The Bees went down in order in both the seventh and eighth innings before having the potential tying run thrown out at home in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.

Bryan Casey got the start and allowed three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings. He took the loss to move to 4-6. Blaine Hardy was charged with his first blown save after allowing one run on two hits in 3.1 innings. The Bees outhit Wisconsin 9-8. Both Hosmer and Garcia had two hits in the game.
