Chiefs Snap Seven Game Losing Streak Against Quad Cities

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs snapped their seven game losing streak with a 3-1 win against Quad Cities Sunday afternoon at O'Brien Field. Starting pitcher Marcus Hatley was brilliant in six shutout innings in the Chiefs fifth straight win at O'Brien Field.

The Chiefs got to Quad Cities starter Hector Cardenas early in the game. David Macias began the first inning with a double to left and advanced to third on a bunt single by Josh Harrison. A throwing error by Cardenas allowed Macias to score. With Rebel Ridling batting, Harrison was picked off attempting to steal second. After Ridling grounded out, Kyler Burke hit is 27th double of the season. Josh Vitters singled to center field, plating Burke and giving the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.

Peoria tacked on another run in the sixth. With two down, Vitters hit his 11th double of the season. Mario Mercedes singled to plate Vitters and give the Chiefs a 3-0 advantage.

The River Bandits got one run back in the eighth. With two outs, Charlie Cutler singled and advanced to second on Osvaldo Morales' single to third. Paul Cruz singled up the middle to score Cutler and cut into the Chiefs lead 3-1.

Hatley improved to 5-4 after firing six shutout innings. The right-hander allowed only four hits while walking one and striking out two. Kevin Kreier threw 1 2/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits while walking and striking out one. Chris Huseby earned his fourth save of the season, throwing 1 1/3 innings giving up one hit and striking out three.
