Davenport, IA- Davenport native Ian Bedell turned in 4 2/3 scoreless innings Tuesday to help push the Chiefs past Quad Cities 3-2 on Tuesday. With the win, Peoria moved back to .500 at 32-32.

Bedell, who attended Davenport Central High School, took the field in the bottom of the first to a rousing ovation from the 3,745 fans in attendance. The right-hander worked around a pair of infield hits to turn in a scoreless first inning. From there, Bedell was on cruise control. At one point, the hometown hurler retired 11 consecutive batters.

The Peoria offense gave Bedell a lead in the top of the fourth. Catcher Jimmy Crooks led off the inning with a solid single and later stole second. Then, with one out in the frame, Osvaldo Tovalin lined into right field to score Crooks and make it 1-0. For Tovalin, it was his 29th RBI to tie for the team lead.

Bedell's stretch of 11 in a row retired was snapped by a one-out single in the fifth. Following a strikeout of Jack Alexander, he was lifted from the game. The right-hander allowed just three hits and whiffed five. He did not walk a batter.

Chiefs reliever Zane Mills recorded the last out of the fifth inning and picked up right where Bedell left off. The sinkerballer sat down the River Bandits in order in the sixth and stranded a pair of runners in the seventh.

In the eighth, the Chiefs extended their lead in the span of just two pitches. With two outs in the inning, Aaron McKeithan worked a walk to extend the frame. On the next pitch, Crooks doubled to the gap in left center, plating pinch runner Darlin Moquete. Then, Jeremy Rivas looped the first pitch he saw into shallow right to give Peoria a 3-0 cushion.

Nathanael Heredia entered in the bottom of the eighth inning but was unable to keep the shutout intact. Shervyen Newton's opposite field blast got the River Bandits on the board, 3-1.

In the ninth, Heredia recorded the first two outs before Newton was due to bat again. The Peoria left-hander did not get another opportunity to face Newton, as Chiefs manager Patrick Anderson handed the ball to Gustavo Rodriguez. With a runner at second, Newton singled into right to cut the deficit to 3-2. With the winning run now at the plate, Rodriguez punched out Jack Pineda on three pitches to end the game.

The series continues Wednesday from Modern Woodmen Park.
