Portland Beavers News Release

TUCSON, Ariz. - Chris Carter blasted three home runs as the Tucson Sidewinders defeated the Portland Beavers 11-0 at Tucson Electric Park Monday night.

With the loss, the Beavers (30-27), who have lost the last five consecutive road games, were assured of their first road series loss since the opening set of the season April 14-17 at Salt Lake.

Carter, who had only four home runs all season, hit solo shots in the sixth and eighth innings to accompany his two-run shot in the third.

Dewon Brazelton (0-2) took the loss for the Beavers, allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings.

Chris Young singled with one out in the sixth inning, then moved to second on a single by Stephen Drew. Scott Hairston followed with a three-run blast to left-center before Carter hit his second clout of the night on the next pitch off reliever Aquilino Lopez for the 10-0 advantage.

The Sidewinders (34-25) got three in the third when Alberto Callaspo led off the inning with a single. Callaspo then advanced to second on a groundout by Young and scored on an RBI single by Drew. Carter followed Drew's base hit with a two-run homer to right to put Tucson up 4-0.

Mike Bacsik (5-0) pitched five scoreless innings for the win, recording two strikeouts while allowing just two singles.

Brian Barden hit his second double of the game in the bottom of the fifth when a miscommunication allowed the ball to drop in shallow left field. Catcher Robby Hammock followed with a double of his own that scored Barden and increased the lead to 6-0.

Barden got the Sidewinders on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a solo shot to right field off Brazelton for a 1-0 lead.

The Beavers and Sidewinders conclude the four-game series at Tucson Electric Park Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
