Carter launches three in 11-0 Tucson rout

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders guaranteed themselves a series victory over the Portland Beavers last night with a 11-0 victory. LHP Mike Bacsik got the spot start for Tucson and made the most of his opportunity. Bacsik worked five innings and did not allow a run or a walk. He conceded only two hits and struck out two batters. 1B Chris Carter hit three bombs

The Sidewinders got on the board first when 2B Brian Barden hit his fourth homer of the year over the wall in right. Barden's homer gave Tucson a 1-0 lead after two frames.

Tucson added three more runs in the third. 3B Alberto Callaspo singled through the hole at second and moved to second on CF Chris Young groundout. SS Stephen Drew then singled to right, to score Callaspo. 1B Chris Carter then smashed a two-run homer to right field to give Tucson a 4-0 lead.

RF Donnie Sadler scored for the Sidewinders in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0. He led the inning off with a single to shallow center and then moved to second on a Bacsik sacrifice. Two batters later, Young hit a single to center to knock Sadler home.

The Sidewinders scored for the fourth consecutive inning in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Barden and C Robby Hammock.

In the sixth, Tucson added four more runs. Young singled to center and Drew singled to left to put two on for LF Scott Hairston. Hairston hit his 14th homer of the year to left-center. Carter followed Hairston's homer up with his second of the game, a solo shot to right-center.

Carter added his third homer of the night in the eighth to push the Tucson's lead to 11-0, where it stayed for the rest of the game.

For the Beavers, RHP Dewon Brazelton got the loss. In five innings, he allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks. He did not strike out a batter.
