Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, Md.- Pedro Beato pitched seven strong innings as he led the Delmarva Shorebirds to a 5-2 victory over the Hagerstown Suns in the first of a three-game set at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Making his first start after appearing in the All-Star Futures game in San Francisco, Beato allowed only two runs-one earned-on three hits and struck out five. Both Luis Lebron and Chad Thall came on to strike out two each in an inning of work, with Thall picking up his 14th save of the season. Suns designated hitter Joe Napoli was responsible for the only earned run of Delmarva pitching by hitting a solo homerun in the second inning. Beato evened his record to 4-4 and ended a personal four-game losing streak.

Hagerstown took a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third and starter Erik Arnesen was one out away from three consecutive hitless innings to begin the game. Danny Figueroa started the two out rally with a double, and scored on an RBI double by David Cash which hit the first base bag on its way down the right field line.

Brandon Tripp and followed with a go-ahead two-run homerun for a 3-2 Shorebirds. The lead expanded to two when Chris Vinyard followed Tripp with a homer of his own. The scene was reminiscent of Thursday's game in Hagerstown, when Delmarva hit three consecutive homeruns off of Arnesen on its way to a 20-6 win.

Delmarva sends Tim Bascom to the mound tomorrow and will be opposed by Jeff Mandel for the Suns. The loss tonight snapped a three-game winning streak for Hagerstown.
