PREVIOUS DAY RECAP: The GreenJackets (50-20, 13-6) completed the three game series sweep of the Greenville Drive (29-40, 9-10) with a 7-6 walk-off win on Monday night. Brett Pill delivered the game winning hit with an RBI single in the ninth inning and closer Juan Trinidad recorded the win in relief. W iththe score tied at 6-6 and runners on second and third with one out, Pill connected for an RBI single past shortstop Kris Negron scoring Emmanuel Burriss for the win. Burriss led off the inning with a walk then Ryan Rohlinger was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Bobby Felmy put down a sacrifice bunt to move up the runners and set up Pill. The GreenJackets took a 6-4 lead into the top of the ninth but Chih-Hsien Chiang tied the game with a two-out two run double to right-center field off Trinidad. Augusta erased leads of 1-0 and 3-1 before finally taking a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a lead off homer from Rohlinger, his team leading 15th of the season.
RBI MAN: BrettPill drove in his team leading 58th RBI in Monday's win. Pill is tied for second in the Giants organization with Scott McClain at Triple-A Fresno and one behind Tyler Von Schell who has 59 at Double-A Connecticut.
ROCKIN' AND ROHLINGER: Ryan Rohlinger connected for his team leading 15th home run and his third in three days. Rohlinger is second in the Giant's organization with 15 home runs, one behind Scott McLain at Triple-A Fresno.
WEST COAST CONNECTION: Matt W eston connected for his ninth home run of the season Monday night and his second in two days.
WALK OFFWINNER: The GreenJackets recorded their first walk off win of the season on Monday night.
PUTTING ON THE HITS: Mike McBryde has hit safely in six straight games and is 10-for-23 (.435) with six runs scored, two home runs and four RBIs.
OFF AND RUNNING: The GreenJackets stole four more bases in last night's game, with Emmanuel Burriss swiping two and Bobby Felmy and Tyler Graham each stealing one. Burriss leads the Giants organization with 40 stolen bases on the year, swiping 23 with Augusta and 17 with San Jose. Augusta leads the league with 144 stolen bases.
BLOWN SAVE: Juan Trinidad suffered his second blown save in 19 opportunities. Trinidad is second in the SAL with 17 saves.
HIGHEST WIN PERCENTAGE: The GreenJackets currently sport the highest winning percentage in all of baseball with a .708 (63-26) win percentage.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: For the second consecutive week, a GreenJackets pitcher has been named SAL Pitcher of the W eek. Right-hander Kevin Pucetas was named this week after right-hander Dan Griffin won the week before. Augusta has had five pitchers named this year in the SAL as Pitcher of the W eek.
PLAYOFF BOUND: Augusta clinched the Southern Division First-Half Titleon June 12 assuring themselves a spot in the post season come September.
Tonight's Probables
AUG: RHP Dan Griffin (5-4, 3.68) vs. ASH: RHP Simon Ferrer (5-6, 4.88)
WHAT'S ON TAP: Right-hander Dan Griffin makes his 19th appearance of the season and ninth start for Augusta. Griffin is coming off one of his worst outings as a starter, allowing nine runs on 12 hits in four plus innings of work to Hickory. Griffin allowed a career high four home runs in the game, one week after being named the SAL Pitcher of the W eek for June 25-July 1. Griffin did not allow a run in his two previous starts and allowed just six hits. This is Griffin's first start against Asheville.
Right-hander Simon Ferrer goes to the hill tonight for Asheville for his 18th start of the season. Ferrer has lost two straight starts and allowed a combined 10 runs, nine earned, on 19 hits over 15 innings. Ferrer has pitched better at home this year, going 3-1 with a 4.22 ERA in nine starts at McCormick Field. Ferrer is making his second start of the season against Augusta and suffered a loss against the GreenJackets on June 12. Ferrer allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits in three innings of work.
Augusta vs. Asheville
The GreenJackets and Tourists meet up for the final time in Asheville this season for a three game series. Augusta has lost just once to Asheville in the first eight meetings of the year and has outscored the Tourists 37-19. The last meeting between the two teams was in Augusta and the GreenJackets swept the Tourists to clinch the Southern Division first-half title. The GreenJackets were out of first place for just five days in the first half of the season with Asheville holding the top spot during that time. The farthest Augusta dropped back was 1.5 games back. W ith the second half underway, Asheville again is chasing down Augusta for the top spot in the Southern Division as the Tourists look to join the GreenJackets in the playoffs. Asheville enters the three game series one game back of the first place GreenJackets in the division.
