Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Greenville, SC -- The Kannapolis Intimidators used three home runs and an eight-run fourth inning to break out of a six-game losing streak and beat the Greenville Drive, 13-3, at West End Field Wednesday afternoon. The Intimidators (9-11, 41-49) have now won 10 of 12 games against the Drive (9-11, 38-51) on the year.

After Monday's morning game and Tuesday's off day, the Intimidators nearly had two full days off before Wednesday morning's bus ride from Kannapolis to Greenville. An 8:00 am bus ride got the team to Greenville around 10:15 am for a 12:05 pm start. Maybe all the Intimidators needed was a little rest to break out of their losing streak.

Kannapolis scored two runs in the top of the first off Greenville starter Felix Doubront.

But, the fourth inning was the slump buster. After Doubront left the game with an arm injury in the third, reliever Jorge Rodriguez came in and threw just two pitches to get out of the inning. However, he threw 35 in the fourth inning and retired only one batter before giving way to Brian Steinocher. Steinocher threw another 15 pitches to get out of the inning. The results: eight runs on seven hits, including a double and a home run.

Every Intimidator had at least one hit and they totaled 17 overall. Stefan Gartrell, Chris Carter, and Lee Cruz all hit home runs. Gartrell, Cruz, and Brandon Allen all had three hits. Carter and Francisco Hernandez chipped in two apiece. Five players had at least two RBIs each.

On the hill, Matt Long earned his sixth win of the year and snapped a two-start losing streak. Long went six innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and just one walk. Noe Rodriguez struck out five in two innings of relief and Ryan Rote gave up one hit in the ninth.

Kannapolis opened up its 10-day, 10-game, three-city road trip with a win, moving its road record to 5-6 this half and 19-26 overall.

The Intimidators will take on the Drive again Thursday night at West End Field. Game time is set for 7:05 pm.
