Salisbury, MD: The Hagerstown Suns were defeated 5-2 against the Delmarva Shorebirds at Arthur W. Perdue on Wednesday night. Pedro Beato tossed 7-innings, allowing only two runs.

The Suns, (6-13, 36-50) got off to an auspicious start scoring the first two runs of the game with one the 2nd inning and one with the third. Joe Napoli hit a solo shot in the 2nd, his third in two nights and Marvin Lowrance grounded out with one out to plate Mike Martinez who led off the 3rd with a single into left. But that was it against Pedro Beato who went seven innings, yielding just the two runs on only three hits. The Suns had a couple of golden opportunities in the late innings as they had the tying run at the plate in both the 8th and 9th but could not score.

The 'Birds got four of their runs in the 3rd inning against Erik Arnesen who drops to 3-5. Arnesen who recorded two quick outs in the 3rd allowed back-to-back doubles to Danny Figueroa and David Cash and then yielded back-to-back homeruns to Brandon Tripp and Chris Vinyard. Delmarva added their last run in the 4th on a RBI groundout off the bat of Michael Pierce to plate Brandon Synder who led off the inning with a single.

Thursday, the Suns and Birds will play the middle game at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
