BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today that the club has acquired goaltender Andy Iles from the Atlanta Gladiators in exchange for future considerations.
Iles, 23, hails from Ithaca, New York and was one of the top junior goalies in the United States during his time with Cornell University between the 2010-11 and 2013-14 seasons.
Even before he started with Cornell in 2010-11, he had already become one of the marquee goaltenders in his age group and earned international recognition as a member of Team USA's gold medal winning squad at the World Junior Under-18 Championship during the 2009-10 season.
That wasn't his only taste of international play. He joined Team USA for the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship and earned a bronze medal as the club's backup goaltender behind Jack Campbell.
He completed his four-year NCAA career with Cornell University in 2013-14 as a decorated collegiate goaltender. In his just his second year with Cornell, he earned NCAA All Ivy League First Team honours.
His best year in college was the 2013-14 campaign, in which he appeared in 31 contests and posted a 2.17 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. His strong play earned him a number of high-profile awards and accolades, including another NCAA All Ivy League First Team honour, as well as NCAA Ivy-League Player of the Year and NCAA Lowes Senior Class All-Americans First Team honours.
As a professional, Iles has been a full-time ECHL goalie and has suited up for Florida Everblades, Alaska Aces and Atlanta Gladiators.
Beast Head Coach Colin Chaulk is excited to have a young, experienced goaltender join the Beast.

In a separate transaction, the St. John's IceCaps have recalled defenseman Dalton Thrower from the Beast. During this stint with Brampton, Thrower appeared in one game on December 6 and was a physical presence on the blue line but did not record a point.
The Beast are back in action on Wednesday for the team's annual School Day Game at 11:00 AM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
