Bears Name Captains for 2011-12 Season
October 5, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - The HERSHEY BEARS announced today the naming of team captains for the 2011-12 season. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
Boyd Kane, entering his 14th professional season, has been named team captain. Kane, 33, led the 2005-06 squad to the Calder Cup Championship while compiling career highs in goals (20), assists (29) and points (49). He recorded 13 points in the BEARS' 21-game run to their ninth club championship. He also matched his career-high goal and point total last season while serving as assistant captain, and finished tied for the team lead with six game-winning goals.
The native of Swift Current, SK is one of just two players in AHL history to captain back-to-back Calder Cups with two different teams. Kane also needs just three games to reach 800 in his American Hockey League career. He has compiled 432 points with Hartford, Springfield, Philadelphia, and HERSHEY.
Keith Aucoin, who became the 21st player in AHL history to reach 700 points last season, will serve as assistant captain for the 2011-12 campaign. Aucoin finished last season ranked fifth overall in the AHL in scoring with 72 points, despite having appeared in only 53 games. He was named the recipient of the 2009-10 Les Cunningham Award as the AHL's most valuable player, after recording the fourth-highest single-season point total (106) in BEARS history.
Graham Mink, returning for his third stint in HERSHEY after capturing Calder Cup championships in each of his previous two seasons (2006 and 2009), will wear the "A" for all BEARS home games. Mink orchestrated his sixth consecutive 20-goal season last year with the Peoria Rivermen, and has recorded 50 or more points in four of his last five AHL seasons.
Chris Bourque, who returns to HERSHEY for his sixth season after spending last year overseas, will serve as assistant captain for road games. Bourque has compiled 300 points in 319 games in a HERSHEY uniform, and ranks 21st on the BEARS' all-time scoring list.
The BEARS will open the 2011-12 regular season on the road this weekend, with 7:05 PM faceoffs against the Binghamton Senators on Friday, October 7 and against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, October 8.
The BEARS will face off against the Norfolk Admirals in the team's home opener at Giant Center on Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 PM. Individual tickets for this and all regular-season home games are on sale now by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
HERSHEY BEARS season ticket plans are also on sale now by calling (717) 508-BEAR, with many different flexible plans still available. Season ticket plans start as low as $160.
